Editing

Every frame is a chance to make someone feel something real

For me, the joy of editing is allowing anything to be repurposed and seeing what surprising connections might present themselves.

I’m delighted when someone appreciates me as a storyteller because it really is what elevates an edit, regardless of the format.

RIBA

I edited this Progress Films project for the Royal Institute of British Architects in conjunction with the BBC. Although it has the feel of a documentary, it’s effectively a promo for the Kingston University London's student Town House outlining why it deserved to win the Riba Stirling Prize. Incidentally, it did.

Hyundai ASMR

I love a project that allows me to really focus on one part of the editing process - in this case sound. This cut was made using moments from a much longer edit I did for Superlative Films and Hyundai. The full edit followed the construction of a car from start to finish - this cutdown plunges into the sound design to create an ASMR experience.

This is spoken (spanish)

This was one of a series of films I edited for This Is Spoken. The footage was provided by a production team in Quito, and was cut to a series of interviews with service users of a children’s charity. I’m a Spanish speaker and am happy to translate and edit in Spanish, even when dialects are involved.

Tinder house

Branded entertainment is one of my favourite genres: Placing a brand somewhere in an episode of a web series or promo spot that borrows from Factual Entertainment TV shows, but has to deliver the pace and visual flair of a YouTube video or Insta reel.

Off grid episode two

Another episode from a branded entertainment series. It's a really fun way to practice storytelling, narrative arc, dialogue scenes and sub-plots.

Making dreamland

I’m a big fan of documentary, and really enjoying filming and editing. I was involved in the filming of this sizzler, which required a 17-day shoot. Very hard to cut down to three minutes!

Tin Foil Flat

This is a comedy film I entered into UK film festivals. I shot it myself, which is why there’s only camera movement when I’m not on-screen. The microwave exploding is a composite of four shots layered on top of each other. With a bit of planning, in-camera effects can be a great alternative to expensive VFX.

Already Gone

Music videos are great fun to edit. They don’t need a narrative thread but it’s nice when there’s time and budget to incorporate a story that fits around the track.

GFV

This promo for Guilt Free Vaping leans into humour and relies very much on the good will of strangers.

Lagom

Adding a story to a music video can complicate the shoot, so sometimes it’s best just to throw food at yourself in front of a Phantom Flex 1000fps camera.
